> E > ERITREA
The Eritrea & Ethiopia conflict lasted from 1998-2000; the final peace agreement was in 2018. Ethiopia still occupies the boundary of Badme; it has great symbolic significance to both countries, and sadly, further conflicts are likely. Eritrea uses the Nakfa, which was introduced in 1998 and named after the politically important town of Nacfa. On the 1st January 2016, the National Bank of Eritrea introduced the new Nakfa notes, date of issue 24/05/2015. The old notes had become unusable due to informal foreign currency exchange, criminal activity, money laundering, counterfeiting & human trafficking. So the introduction of the new notes made the old notes worthless except for collector value. The only exception was the 100 nakfa bearing the date of issue 24/05/2011. They were designed by Clarence Holbert and printed by Giesecke & Devrient. (Germany)
